July at The Country Quilter!

The Garden Quilt Show, June 18, was a wonderful display of talent and creativity. There were quilts finished during the COVID lockdowns, lots made from stashes, quilts from classes and wool applique. This year we were joined by two talented partners of quilters, who displayed their creativity with wood.

The book sale raised over $500.00 which will be donated to CANHAVE to pay school fees for a child to attend classes. The African themed quilts made and donated by Grace and Wilma Whiting, and Peggy Roe will be on display in the shop until September.

Viewers choice winners at the show were Lynne Rochette and Jane Roszell. Photos can be seen on this link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ai6ofevaqJsFT2SB6. Congratulations to them!

Thanks to those who donated food items and cash to The Richmond Food Bank. These donations will help over the summer.

During July and August, we will continue with shortened hours. Open Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday 10:00 – 1:00. We will be closed the Saturdays of the long weekends. As there is a class on Friday July 8th, we will be open and feature a two-day sale! It will continue on July 9!! Check out what wide backings you may need for your next project.

Classes being offered in July include a new Modern Scrap quilt class on Wednesday, July 27. This is a good summer project to use up more scraps and ‘to make something from nothing’.

The Finishing Touch, Saturday, July 16 will review all the tricks and tips for finishing your quilt. It will cover how to square up your quilt (any size), how to choose a binding, piping, or a facing, the way to apply a sleeve, and other questions or problems you might have. You may bring unfinished projects for advice.

The Lunch and Learn class on Wednesday, July 20 will be a fun day. Lynne Rochette will be choosing the project for this class.

The monthly classes continue during the summer. Knotty Girls, Wool Applique, Gnomes and of course Finishing School each Tuesday.

Raising funds for the Richmond Food Bank and CANHAVE!

Quilts in the Garden 2022 focused on raising funds for CANHAVE and our local food bank, and raise, we did!

The crafts from the CANHAVE table brought in $212. There will be further sales of items that are remaining.

With the book sale we raised $512, enabling us to sponsor a child with fees, books and uniforms for a year. It will change a life of a child and probably a family. Hopefully with future sales of donated items we will be able to sponsor 2 children.

We also donated 2 boxes of food to the Richmond Food Bank along with $120.

Thanks to the generosity of those attending the show.🌼

From The Country Quilter’s Quilts in the Garden event Saturday …spirits were high, temperatures were low, but creativity and generosity were contagious! And the sun eventually did shine!

A huge thank you to all who shared their beautiful quilts and handiwork, handmade guitars and woodwork for the displays. Stunning!
And those who volunteered at various areas… the book sale, CANHAVE table, sign In table, those who helped to set up and take down tables, quilts, clotheslines, those who donated books and items for the food bank…
And to the guests who showed up, The Country Quilter thanks you all!

John’s Mobile Sharpening will be onsite from 11:30 to 2:00. Bring scissors, knives, garden tools, lawn mower blades etc. in a plastic bag with your name on it. Leave them with him while you browse the show.

St. Paul’s Church will have box lunches available from 11:30 to 2:00. The ladies will also have their homemade pies for sale. Stock up for summer BBQ’s. The book sale and quilted crafts sale with proceeds to CANHAVE will happen as well.

Support for Ukrainian Families!

85 Ukrainian families are coming to Lanark county. The Country Quilter is collecting quilts to help give these families a warm welcome.
This quilt was my Easter weekend project. All scraps from my cupboard.
If you wish to donate a quilt it does not need to be blue and yellow, just made with love.

Tuesday Morning Finishing School!

We are pleased to announce our popular Tuesday morning Finishing School is continuing, each week, from 10-1pm.

This drop in group works on their own projects and socializes with other quilters. Most people bring hand work, stitching, knitting, applique… It is always interesting to see what others are doing and to share ideas.

Please bring some of your wonderful work, or ‘Show and Tell’ items, or just enjoy the company! Cost: $3.
