April at The Country Quilter!

As classes are planned for April and May we are happy to be able to accommodate more people in the classroom. We are asking that you continue to wear your mask in the shop.

Knotty Girls, Friday, April 8th and Wool Applique, Wednesday, April 13th will resume again. We look forward to the new ideas that Lynne has found on her visit to Australia.

The Machine Applique Gnome class is full, but you can still sign up to receive the patterns each month.

There is another opportunity for you to donate a half day to help make Touch Quilts, Saturday, April 23. These quilts are a comfort for those with dementia. The finished quilts are donated to local care homes.

Tracy has planned a Modern Scrappy Quilt that will use up some of those scraps lurking (and growing) in your sewing room on Wed, April 27 and May 4th, from 10-1pm.

We are hoping that we will be able to have our Garden Quilt Show this year. Mark Saturday, June 18 on your calendar.

Many of you have been busy making quilts to donate to charity during the lockdowns. I have seen quilts for the Veterans Home, quilts for survivors of residential schools, Touch Quilts and Baby Quilts for the Queensway Carleton Hospital. We are asking for photos of these quilts for a display at the quilt show. Please print out a photo and put your name on it and the charity where you are donating the quilt.

If you made a quilt for the Veterans’ Home you might want to look at the web site to see some on beds in the residence. Google “Veterans Home Ottawa”.

Check out the sales this month on the calendar! 🌷🐰☔

March 2022, at The Country Quilter!

Come and join the Tuesday morning drop-in group. Bring along your stitching or knitting for a social time.

There won’t be a Touch Quilt workshop this month, but kits are available to pick up if you need more supplies.

As Lynne Rochette has gone to Australia, there will not be a meeting of the Woolies or the Knotty Girls. Work on your show and tell for the April meetings!

Hopefully the Gnomes will not encounter a snow day this month! The class is Saturday, March 12, from 10:30 to 12:30. You can still register to receive the patterns each month by email or in the class.

The Landscape class, including the Alumni group, meets at 10:30 Wednesday, March 16.

The Crumb class was very successful in providing many interesting ways to use up those fabric crumbs that collect after a project. On Wednesday, March 30, Jane will teach crumb confetti that you can use to create amazing applique designs.

Looking ahead…

Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 7 Jane will teach an in-depth machine quilting class. You will learn how to get the best results with your machine to quilt, enhance and embellish your quilting projects. This is a two-day quilting retreat.

Hopefully, we will be able to have our Garden Quilt Show this year. Mark Saturday, June 18 on your calendar and we will hope for the best.

More Crumbs…

We are going to do it again!

This time confetti appliqués will be covered. Join Jane on Wednesday March 30 and learn creative ways to use your scraps.

Welcome February 2022!

The days are getting longer and the sun is shining more often as we look forward to February. It is time to take some inspiration from the brighter days and get back to some of your quilting projects, or to start a new one.

Classes are a good way to get you back into the sewing room. It is also fun to sew with others after being so long alone. You do need to have your vaccines to attend classes, and to wear a mask.

The Tuesday Finishing School is a good morning of socializing while you work on a project. Non quilting work is allowed! We have knitters, cross stitchers and lots of stitching being accomplished. There is room to bring your machine if you wish to sew.

If you are planning to attend the Wool Applique Class (Wednesday, February 9, 10:00 – 12:00) or the Knotty Girls Stitching Group (Friday, February 11, 10:00 – 12:00), please call and put your name on the list for the February classes.

The Gnome Machine Applique Class (Saturday, February 12, 10:30 – 12:30) will make you smile! A different little gnome will be offered each month. If you choose, you can sign up for the class and receive the patterns and instructions by email, with the option to attend classes. You may also learn the skills to work on your own pattern.

Please Help! Consider donating a morning to sew Touch Quilts (Saturday, February 19, 10:00 – 2:00) for people with dementia. Unfortunately, there is a growing need for these manipulative little lap quilts. All materials are supplied for this workshop. It is a fun way to socialize with other quilters while contributing to this worthwhile project.

The Landscape Club will resume this month (Wednesday, February 16, 10:00 – 2:00). There will be instruction for new participants. Choose a favourite photo to reproduce in fabric.

Dig out the Crumbs, (small pieces of fabric) from the corners of your sewing room and create a quilt. Jane Roszell has designed a fun class to use those little pieces. (Wednesday, February 23, 9:30 – 1:30).

The Beginner Class is designed to get you started quilting, or restarted. Learn the newest techniques for quilting. It is a good review if you have been away from your machine for a while. A small runner will teach you what you need to know to make a quilt.

To register for a class, call 613-838-5541. You can pay with a credit card, or stop at the shop to see the sample.

We are collecting basic sewing supplies for a new sewing program starting in Barrhaven. The Multifaith Housing Initiative is looking for sewing machines as well for this endeavor. Items can be dropped off at the shop during February. Please keep this in mind when you are reorganizing your sewing room.
